In many UN meeting governments appoint though national youth councils or United Nations Associations young people to represent the youth and their organizations in their country. Raising awareness through campaigns is an important part of our work. Campaigns help to bring us together, to demonstrate a unified voice, to achieve our objectives. Youth Delegates Training and Email list
With the European Youth Forum and ICMYO (the network of international youth organisations) we facilitate the work of official youth delegates at the UN in sustainable development negotiations. We have an email list which is here
Official youth delegate campaign
During negotiations there are two ways to be represented: through civil society movements (such as the MGCY) or through official governmental delegations. Currently, there are very few official youth delegates and we are trying to change this. Official youth delegates have access to closed discussions, can participate more fully in the process and help to push the youth policies forward.
DOES YOUR COUNTRY HAVE A YOUTH DELEGATE? IF NOT, JOIN THIS CAMPAIGN AND HELP US BUILD OUR YOUTH MOVEMENT!
At the moment, the only countries with official youth delegates are:
- The Netherlands
The lack of official youth representation needs to change and we need your help in lobbying your government to support an official youth delegate as part of their delegation to the UN.
